On Wednesday, October 28th, 1998 the coastal area of Belize received minimal damages from the wave surge of Hurricane Mitch, which was stationed approximately 170 miles east of Belize City. The only losses in San Pedro were the jetties (piers) and beach erosion.

Hotels and restaurants are in operation and all the utilities are in full service. San Pedro, Ambergris Caye awaits the upcoming tourist season in full service. All visitors are guaranteed a fun and memorable vacation here in San Pedro, La Isla Bonita.
