Tranquility Bay Resort is located on a beautiful, palm-fringed, white sandy beach approximately 12 miles north of San Pedro. It lies just inside the amazing Belize Barrier Reef. The spectacular reef parallels the beach like a string of pearls. Tranquility Bay lies within both the new Bacalar Chica National Marine Park and the United Nations World Heritage Site. Tranquility Bay is located just a quarter of a mile north of the Basil Jones cut, the last major navigable passage in the reef south of Reef Point.
The Basil Jones cut has been utilized by man for over two thousand years, first by the Mayan Indians, and later the Spanish and English explorers. It then became a haven and hideout for English pirates who were preying on Spanish galleons. Later, Basil Jones played a role in Belize's famous Battle of St. George's Caye.
Most recently, the Basil Jones cut, and the crystal clear Caribbean Sea immediately in front of Tranquility Bay Resort, have become a favorite fishing, sailing, snorkeling and diving spot. Our, on site, water sports team will help you enjoy and explore these natural wonders. We have both expert fishing guides and expert dive masters. Working in conjunction with Iraida Gonzales of Belize Weddings, we can make all the necessary arrangements for you to be married in Belize. Tranquility Bay Resort includes eleven cozy beachfront cabanas. Seven are two bedroom, two bathroom cabanas and four are one bedroom, one bath cabanas with a very nice loft. The bedrooms are air-conditioned. Handsome, mixed Belizean hardwoods grace the ceilings. The cabanas are delightfully free of telephones or televisions. The wide, white sandy beach runs the entire width of our property and there are million dollar views from each and every cabana.
The cabanas are all furnished in casual elegance with Queen sized beds. Our mattresses are the super comfortable Simmons Beauty Rest, Pillow Top mattresses, like those of "Heavenly Bed" fame. Our linens are high thread count, 100% Egyptian cotton. Our towels are thick and fluffy.
The cabanas are constructed of concrete, stucco and mixed Belizean hardwoods. Hand painted Mexican tiles are utilized for the kitchen and vanity countertops. Elegant ceiling fans are present in the living rooms, bedrooms and lofts. Beautiful Caribbean-inspired furniture includes a queen sleeper couch for additional guests or children. Each cabana is fully equipped with glass cooktop, refrigerator and microwave. You can choose to cook for yourself, dine in our over-the-water Tackle Box Sea Bar or do a little bit of both.

Our over-the-water restaurant and bar is known as the Tackle Box Sea Bar. This has been built as a tribute to Mr. Allan Foreman, a founder of the tourist industry in Belize. He is the original builder and proprietor of the famous "Tackle Box Sea Bar" in San Pedro. For many years it was the place to go in all of Belize. Even "Miss World" was a visitor. Unfortunately Hurricane Mitch destroyed it in 1998. The new Tackle Box has been built in the style, colors and decor of the original and was done under the guidance of Mr. Foreman himself.
Pany Arceo, Mr. Foreman's nephew, was in charge of the construction of both the Tackle Box Sea Bar and the Tranquility Bay Resort. He now serves as our manager and your host. He will oversee the operation of the Tackle Box Sea Bar and will frequently be at or behind the bar to delight and entertain our guests. Mr. Foreman himself, will be a frequent guest and will serve as our on-site historian and raconteur.
The Tackle Box Sea Bar will serve as our restaurant, bar and entertainment center. The restaurant will serve incredibly fresh seafood, including lobster and conch when in season. The fish you will enjoy in the evening were swimming that morning. In addition, delicious beef and chicken dishes will be available as well as vegetarian plates.
Beach cookouts and barbeques will be regular events. The bar will be full service and loaded with character. The bar itself is half of a wooden speedboat. Our plan is to offer the largest collection of Tequilas in the Caribbean, in addition to serving that wonderful staple of Belize, ice cold Belikin beer.
The Tackle Box Sea Bar is the perfect place to talk about that big fish you caught, your terrific dive or your great sail. And, watching the sun set over our coconut palm-lined beach or watching the moon rise over the Caribbean Sea might make you feel a bit like Humphrey Bogart or Lauren Bacall.

The most spectacular aspect of Tranquility Bay Resort is it's terrific location at the heart of the best fishing, sailing, snorkeling and diving in all of Belize. At Tranquility Bay, whether you are a beginner or expert, all of these activities are at our front door.
Our friendly and talented water sports staff can take care of all of your needs, including Ocean kayaks, Sunfish and Hobie Cat sailboats, BIC windsurfers, as well as traditional Belizian fishing and diving boats. We are very well stocked with fishing, diving and snorkeling gear. We have both expert fishing guides and experienced dive masters.
The aquamarine sea in front of our beach is unbelievably clear and warm the year around. It is teaming with fish. There is world-class fishing in our immediate vicinity including bonefish, permit, tarpon, barracuda, grouper, snappers and multiple other species. Off shore, sailfish, marlin and wahoo are prized catches.
Snorkeling in the calm, gin-clear water inside the reef is spectacular. On any one outing you will see dozens and dozens of different varieties of fish, all in Technicolor glory. Outside the reef there is spectacular scuba diving with colorful underwater canyons, giant sponges, sea turtles and ocean fish. Dolphins and manatees frequent Tranquility Bay.
Swimming and kayaking off our beach is always a pleasure. Steady trade winds blow in from off shore. They provide a perfect environment for sailing and wind surfing. And, if you get tired, the wind will just blow you back to shore.
For birding enthusiasts, a large variety of birds can be seen both on and off shore. Nature trails are present to allow hiking all the way from the Caribbean side of the island through to the backside. This includes connections to the interior salt-water lagoons.
Additional day trip activities and adventures are available. A very popular trip is diving or snorkeling at the Hol Chan National Marine Preserve and Shark-Ray Alley, followed by lunch on the picturesque Island of Caye Caulker. There are also boat trips to the famous Blue Hole, (rated one of the world's top 10 dive sites), Lighthouse Reef, Half Moon Caye or the Turneffe Islands. A visit to the Mayan sites of Altun Ha or Lamanai, by boat, is a great adventure. You can even play golf on the island of Caye Chapel, just an hour away by speedboat.
There are also many wonderful things to do on the mainland of Belize. Tranquility Bay Resort can arrange and coordinate these activities including visits to Mayan ruins (over 900 sites), river rafting, cave exploring and bird watching. Sites well worth seeing include the Mountain Pine Ridge country, the Cockscomb Jaguar Preserve, the Baboon Sanctuary, and the Belize Zoo. There is always something spectacular available to do at or near Tranquility Bay. Let the adventures begin.

Sun drenched and fringed with coconut palms, Ambergris Caye is the largest of Belize's over 200 Cayes. Only a stones throw from Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, the narrow Bacalar Chica channel dug by the ancient Maya separates it. Known as "La Isla Bonita", the island is filled with Caribbean charm. San Pedro, the main town, is a delightful blend of the Caribbean with a touch of Mexico and a dash of old Key West. Sandy streets are lined with small hotels, boutiques, dive stores and a full menu of places to eat and drink.
Your Tranquility Bay experience will begin upon your arrival at the San Pedro Airport. We will greet you and transport you to Tranquility Bay by boat. On the way you can enjoy a refreshing soft drink, cocktail or ice cold Belikin beer. As our entire journey lies protected, inside the Belize Barrier Reef, the trip itself is not only beautiful and relaxing but will always be calm and pleasant.
Ambergris Caye stretches north to south just one half mile inside, and parallel to, Belize's magnificent Barrier Reef. The Island extends for more than 30 miles. The Island's eastern side is fringed with beach and faces the nearby reef. The western shore, laced with Mangrove, is rich with wildlife. A visit to the Belize Barrier Reef opens the door to a fascinating underwater world. The waters, both inside and outside the Barrier Reef, offer world class fishing, snorkeling and diving. Belize is a small, enchanting country located just south of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, 150 miles south of Cancun. It is about the size of Massachusetts. Belize is located in Central America and the Belize offshore islands and Belize Barrier Reef are in the crystal clear Caribbean Sea.
Belize is a British Commonwealth Country. English is the official language and Spanish is a common second language. Belize's system of laws and government are similar to both the United States and Great Britain. Belize is served by five international airlines including American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Delta Airlines, US Air and TACA. There are direct flights to Belize City from several US cities. A valid passport is required for entrance to Belize. Commuter airlines, Tropic Air and Maya Island, fly from Belize City to Ambergris Caye.
Belize was once home for the highly sophisticated Mayan Civilization. Multiple well-preserved Mayan ruins are seen throughout the country. Over the years Belize has been inhabited by Spanish explorers, British sailors, colorful pirates, British colonialists, Africans, East Indians, Creoles, Mestizos, as well as more recently Mennonites, expatriate Brits, Canadians and Americans and a fair number of Chinese. Belize is happily multicultural and multireligious. The friendship and warmth of Belize's people is legendary.
Belize has an amazing variety of terrain including the world's second largest barrier reef, hundreds of off shore islands and atolls, mangrove coasts, rolling savannah, pine forests and tropical rain forests. Numerous caves are scattered throughout Belize. Several winding rivers flow from the rain forests into the Caribbean Sea.
Belize is blessed with five major ecosystems. Belize has over 500 species of birds, 500 types of trees, 220 kinds of fish and 200 varieties of orchids. In addition, there are scores of mammals, reptiles and amphibians. Belize is said to have the greatest variety of animal habitats north of the Amazon Basin. Belize is home to the world's largest Jaguar Preserve.
Belmopan is the capital of Belize. Belize City is the largest city and the business hub. Ambergris Caye is the most popular island destination.
