Marine Conditions:

  Winds Seas Waves Details
Today E-NE 5-15 kts Choppy 3-5 ft A FEW SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS.
Tonight E 5-15 kts Choppy 3-5 ft SOME SHOWERS AND A FEW THUNDERSTORMS.
Tomorrow E-SE 10-20 kts Moderate 4-6 ft SOME SHOWERS AND A FEW THUNDERSTORMS.
Outlook E 10-20 kts Moderate 4-6 ft A FEW SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS MOSTLY NORTH.

The Caribbean Sea

ASCAT scatterometer winds indicated peak winds of 30-35 kt north of Colombia and the same over the Gulf of Venezuela. The remainder of the central and eastern Caribbean showed tradewinds of 25-30 kt with 10-20 kt observed in the western Caribbean. A tropical wave just east of the Caribbean is moving toward and interacting with an upper level trough over the Gulf. This is helping to promote scattered moderate showers and thunderstorms across the western Caribbean from the Gulf of Honduras to Jamaica and southern coast of Cuba.

A strong pressure gradient between the Bermuda high and low pressure over northern Colombia will support gale force tonight just offshore Colombia and in the Gulf of Venezuela, with resultant high seas continuing through Sun night before slowly subsiding beginning on Mon. This gradient will will also support strong to near gale force winds over much of the central and SW Caribbean through at least Tue night, with moderate to fresh trades elsewhere.

We are finally enjoying the summer rumblings of thunder - hoping we will also get to enjoy some torrential downpours! It is time for the island to get a nice fresh deluge to dampen the dust and wash off the salt.

Yes, a few sprinkles up on the north end of the island also... Yesterday, the high level was from the north, but swung round to the west, this morning it is from the south and clashing with the easterly Caribbean chunky clouds, to produce a fair amount of early morning rain in central Belize. The main bank of high level is still coming up from the south and presently causing a lot of rain out at sea, which could come in over land later this morning or early afternoon. We are still way below normal June.

Toledo is having a fair amount of sunshine, but Caribbean clouds are building over all Belize, with high level causing significant rain, presently west north Belize, but more coming in later.

There has been a large mid level air and cloud movement up from the south, causing a lot of rain and more to come. The high level cloud is thin and from the SW.
