Environmental Education
Education is viewed as an integral part of changing the attitudes and actions of those people who are and will be involved in the decision making process that affect the natural environment. Education is a tool by which knowledge can be disseminated into the community and raise the level of awareness concerning conservation issues. Green Reef is involved in education in several facets from writing weekly newspaper columns on marine ecology to visiting schools with environmental topics.

Green Reef works in conjunction with the San Pedro Tourist Guide Association to present a tour guide training lecture series for local individuals who are working toward obtaining their Tourist Guide license from the Belize Tourist Board. Green Reef also works in conjunction with the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute to present their annual "Manatee Week" in San Pedro.

Since 1997, Green Reef has sponsored a Reef Festival to bring together the people of San Pedro to celebrate their valuable marine resource and to help students and adults better understand its value.
