Nassau Grouper Research
Green Reef is addressing the problems of over-harvesting and subsequent stock depletion that have been for years a threat to Belize's Nassau grouper population.

The overall objective of the project is to prevent the further decline and the eventual collapse of the endangered Nassau grouper stocks by conducting a current stock assessment and development of economic alternatives, community education and outreach programs, legislation, and advocacy campaign.

The intended results of the project will be; a current assessment of Nassau grouper status in relation to historical stocks; an increased awareness about the plight of Nassau groupers in Belize and the Caribbean; preparation of new legislation prepared for the protection of Nassau groupers; presenting fishermen with economic alternatives to fishing spawning aggregations of Nassau groupers.
