You'll have to get a work permit to work legally. Working illegally is stressful and you won't get paid very well, just like working illegally in any country. The work permit process can be a pricey and frustrating one, so be prepared for that. Some employers will offer to arrange a work permit for you if they really want you badly enough, but those promises don't always come to fruition.

If you are intelligent, articulate, trustworthy, friendly, a hard worker and aren't prone to severe alcohol or substance abuse, then you're chances are better than many others. This is low season and the economy has been affected by the world economic downturn so, just like everywhere else, the job market is tough.

Be prepared to work hard, network hard and struggle a bit, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a try. Personally, I love the new influx of young, energised and enthusiastic people coming to San Pedro with new ideas and talents. They are creating a great vibe here. Good luck with your adventure.
