WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH: We had lovely tailing fish in front of the lodge all week. And the further the angler walks up the beach, the dumber the fish get. As we always say, a bonefish landed on the beach side is worth double points! A good interception, and a slow strip, usually does the trick. This worked for Paul, who landed a beauty up the beach. Tim was here on his honeymoon with his fabulous wife, Traci. They were walking up the beach with the fly rod. Tim had two take off and not return. Yes, a long line release. LLR for the initiated. The entire Dadam family landed bonefish! Something to be proud of for sure. Grandpa Jack, Grandma Barbara, Dad Jeff, Mom Blinda, Uncle Matt and Melinda and let's not forget the leaders of the pack: 10 y/o twins - John Wayne and Jesse James! I love those names and the fishing spirit is very much alive in these guys. Philip and Peter, another father and son duo, also landed bonefish on fly. Bonefish pins awarded to all!

PERMIT: Sam landed his permit on fly with Captain Emirand that started his slam!

TARPON: Sam landed his tarpon on fly with Captain Emir that went towards his slam for the day. Kelli was here from Texas. This was her first fly fishing saltwater experience and she landed a tarpon on fly with Captain Luis. Awesome. The woman is hooked! Jason was here on a day trip with Captain Cesar. He landed his first tarpon on fly! Meredith also was out on a day trip with Captain Kechu and she landed a nice one on fly. Nice work all! And honorable mention goes out to 10 y/o John Wayne who had two tarpon on with live bait. They got away, but he knows that feeling of feeling the line fly out of you hands when the tarpon gets big air. Look out parents.

SNOOK: Wow! We are seeing some 10 to 20 lb snook around these days. It's wintertime, and they come out of the mangroves with all the fresh water from the rain to feed. A snook on a fly is an amazing experience. They will follow, and then ambush that imitation like they mean it. Kelli had some great shots with Captain Luis, so now she knows the game.

Grand Slam: Sam was here on his honeymoon with his lovely wife Caitlin. Caitlin landed bonefish on fly, and her husband got the SLAM! Permit, tarpon and bone all on fly in one day = SLAM. And when you get a slam at El Pescador, you are awarded a big pin. You also have a plaque that goes up in the Grand Slam Bar. Sam's will read: Sam Reiche/ December 30, 2013/ Captain Emir. Congratulations to the honeymooners!

OTHER SPECIES: We had a lot of anglers use spin this week and they found all kinds of fish to target. Norma landed a shark! John landed a 40 lb barracuda! We had several boats prepare shore lunches this week. This takes some time out of the fishing day, but it's a great experience. The guides cook up what you catch (and yes, they have back up) and the anglers enjoy a tasty fresh hot lunch with fresh tortillas. Yum. Nice going John and Norma.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Crazy Charlie, Gotcha, CI Special

FOR PERMIT - Turneffe Crab, Avalon, Big Squimps!

FOR TARPON - Black Death, Chartreuse toad, White toads and bait fish patterns.

Guide of the week: Captain Emir for Sam's honeymoon slam!
