FISHING REPORT

July 14, 2013 - July 20, 2013

Weather Conditions: The week started windy and rainy but cleared up nicely as the week went on.

Air Temperature: Upper 80s, low 90's. Winds: East for the most part from 5-10 some days to 10-20 other days.

Water Temperature: Temps 78-82 degrees

Moonphase: The first quarter moon was on July 15th.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH: Father and son team Tom and Tony landed a half dozen bonefish on their outing with Capt. Vince. Some day trips folks got into some big bonefish days also, Returning guests Bruce and Tonya Shaw brought their son Ben and daughter in law Rachel for the week. It was Rachel's first time with a fly rod and, despite her apprehension about learning to fly fish, she was a star student on the casting platform. The bonefish loved her, and Ben too, and they earned their bonefish pins easily with Capt. Kechu. The Barnes family has returned yet again and Robert, Jeanna, Ryan and David were guided to bonefish with Capt. Luis. Ron and Carolyn from "Hook and Hackle" got started with a good bonefish day on their first day out with Capt. Erlindo. AJ and Jenny both got bonefish on the fly rod their first day out. First time bonefisher John teamed up with Capt. Cesar for a nice bonefish day as well. Bonefishing was pretty steady even on the cloudy days.

PERMIT: Lots of close calls - Tom narrowly missed his permit and doesn't want to talk about it!, Steve missed a few, then finally the brother team of Carson & Christian broke the slump with a nice pair of permit (one each) on their first day out with Capt. Emir.

TARPON: Sean had a stellar week! He jumped 7 and landed 3 on his best day with Capt. Cesar followed by jumping 2 nice poons the next day. And it doesn't stop there! The day after that another 9 tarpon were in the air and another 3 to the boat. For the week they jumped 18 and landed 7,,, Holy Cow! Lots of hookups with the tarpon taggers that left midweek but none were big enough to tag. They need 90 pounds or better to qualify for the satellite tag and the best was 68 pounds. They had a lot of bigger fish on but couldn't get them to the boat. Walker landed a nice 30-pound fish and lost another a bit bigger with Capt. Tomas late in the week.

OTHER SPECIES: Barracudas, jacks, ladyfish, and snappers.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONES - Christmas Island Specials, Gotcha, Crazy Charlie

FOR PERMIT - Gummy Minnow, Christmas Island Special - pink size 4

FOR TARPON - Chartreuse bunny, deceiver ( white and olive), tan toad, white cockroach.

Guide of the week: Captain Cesar for the huge tarpon days with Sean (jumped 18 and landed 7)
