WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): "Bonyfish" is how many of the older guides pronounce bonefish here on Ambergris, and it is pretty fitting. Having never eaten one I wouldn't know, but "boney" is what I hear. We have some of the largest schools of bonefish at times. One of those times was 2 days ago when one boat found a huge school of fish. Over 60 were hooked up, over 50 landed. No big bones this week with the largest reported at around 3 pounds.

PERMIT (Palometta): The permit King was Graham of Sport Fishing Television - he and his crew nailed five solid permit on their last day fishing - We will let you know when it airs! Our Montana couple (Al and Mary) both landed permit one day and Mary's ended up being part of her slam.

TARPON (Sabalo): Only a couple tarpon this week with Mary again at the head of the pack and our Russian friend Sergey right behind her. One group found a good concentration of adult fish in the 100-pound range in crystal clear water. Apparently, the excitement level was so high on the boat that everyone forgot how to cast. I don't know what it is about casting to a 100-pound tarpon 60 feet away that turns grown men into to incoherent mush with a tangle of line wrapped around them, while the tarpon swims peacefully by on their way to the next flat. Many of us live for this kind of experience.

OTHER SPECIES: Barracudas, ladyfish, snook, snappers, grouper.

GRAND SLAM: We are still Celebrating Mary's grand slam - she claims she could not have done it without the step by step help and instruction of her husband Al and their guide Gordy. She was beaming all week!

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Special, Crazy Charlies, Gotcha

FOR PERMIT - CI Special, Avalon

FOR TARPON - Green Toad, Cockroach, White Toad

This Week's Summary:

Sport Fishing Television was here for an upcoming episode. It was fantastic to be selected as one of their destinations this season. It paid off, as they had one hell of a permit fishing experience the last day! The wind made for tough fishing, but they persevered to victory.
