FISHING REPORT

October 26th - November 4th, 2015

Weather Conditions: Mostly fair weather all week with some partly cloudy to mostly cloudy days, a few squalls here and there.

Winds: 0-15 mph mostly from the east all week, with a few mornings showing some winds from the North and West.

Air Temperature: Highs are in the upper 80's to low 90's with lows in the low to mid 70's.

Water Temperature: Temp: 80-81 F. degrees

Barometric Pressure: 29.80 - 29.96

Moonphase: The full moon was on October 27th.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): The only guests who didn't catch a bonefish were the ones that didn't fish for bonefish! What a group, Keith and Susan, Paul, Frank, Jake, Ben, Jim, Troy and Nancigail, Shannon and Ty, Nathan, Alex, Jose, newlyweds Laura and Lars, newlyweds Cullen and Grant, Newlyweds Thomas and Witney, John and Joni, Matt, Jim, Kirk, Max, Rick, Jean, our young German friends Elias and Liam with their parents Martin and Mathanya all received the coveted El Pescador bonefish awards this week.

PERMIT (Palometta): The permit honors go to Mike, Troy and Paul who all outfoxed the wily permit this week. Lots of shots at these beautiful fish, but only a few takes. Frank was heartbroken when his permit broke as the knot from the backing to fly line ticked through... Arghhh! Almost a grand slam!

TARPON (Sabalo): Congratulations to our good friend and returning guest Tom for landing his biggest tarpon to date - a solid 50 pounder out on the flats! Orvis' fearless leader Dan put one on the board his first day out, Paul and Frank were thrilled with their tarpon - what a blast! Troy got really busy with a total of three (3 that I know of anyway) And Ben got a nice "roadie" tarpon while golf cart fishing on his own with the help of our handy DIY maps. There are a couple holes just off the road that very few people fish! Returning guest Keith was getting tarpon to eat daily but they were just not sticking. The bites were straight on feeds where the tarpon does not turn away with the fly. Many of these bites end up with the fly pulling straight out of the mouth.

OTHER SPECIES: Ladyfish, Jacks were very cooperative, several species of snappers, a few snook and lots of barracuda.

Grand Slam: A soft slam goes to Troy for his bonefish, permit and tarpon over his trip to El Pescador.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Pretty much if it was in front of a bonefish it worked, but our guides seem to like the simple lead eye CI special more than any other fly we have!

FOR PERMIT - Christmas Island Special, Bauer Crab

FOR TARPON - A striper fly similar to a sand eel, White toads, Chartreuse Deceiver

This Week's Summary:

Orvis' fall Bonefish bonanza was a great success with many guests fishing outside the bonefish box for permit and tarpon! Many thanks to Sarah and Dan from Orvis travel for putting this trip together and hosting a great bunch of folks. There were lots of brand new Helios 2 rods on hand for all to use.
