WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Dale, Chad, Deed, repeat guests Bill and Shay, Julie, Sandy, Lin, Bruce, Linda, Jim, Neil, Rick, Sm. Bruce, John, Father and son team Jay and Jim, Julie and Sandra, were all successful when they fished for the silver ghosts of the flats. Many of these were "first bonefish ever" and special kudos to Diana who on her own, decided to learn to the art of fly fishing. With 2 hour lessons she was off catching bonefish the first day! How many people can say the first fish they caught on a fly rod was a bonefish! Who knows how far she will go as she and Capt. Alex got some quality fishing time in and her skills skyrocketed. Just as determined Brinton and Lin worked hard at developing their fly-fishing skills this week and were rewarded with more and more fish every day while working with one of our certified casting instructors ( Capt. Luis.)

PERMIT (Palometta): Our returning guest Bill landed a nice 25-pound fish with Capt. Tomas at the controls. During breakfast on Tuesday, Julie and Sandy decided that they would each catch permit that day. "Your wish is my command" according to their guide JR and sure enough a pair of 12 pounders were landed. Our good friend Mike came back for the umpteenth time to sharpen his permit skills and was blessed with a bunch of shots with Capt. Emir but couldn't connect, despite a half dozen follows. Nothing is more frustrating to have 2 permit chasing the fly at once, only to refuse it at the last second!

TARPON (Sabalo): Dale got a dream tarpon on his last day with Capt. Alex, A nice 90 pound fish. As they were landing it several other groups of big fish came past! The ladies boat of Sandy and Julie used Capt. JR's skills to get 2 tarpon for Julie. Jay was able to land a couple resident poons on his outings with his Dad, Jim, and his guide Luis. John had a thrilling fight with a tarpon on his last day of fishing with Capt. Luis as well. Capt. Tomas teamed up with returning guest Vaughn to fight for some tarpon that just wouldn't stay buttoned up.

Grand Slam: None

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, Cudas, ladyfish, snappers

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Crazy Charlies, CI Specials size 8, the usual suspects.

FOR PERMIT - Avalon

FOR TARPON - Black Death, Green toad. White toad

Guide of the week: A tie goes Captain Alex for his huge tarpon and hard work with several beginning fly fishermen and Capt. JR's double permit day for Julie and Sandy.

This Week's Summary:

The tough winds put the brakes on the tarpon and permit fishing success rate. We still hooked a few but none came to the boat once the winds kicked up mid week.

Cast to your dreams!
