WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONEFISH (Macabi):
Young Victoria (Tori) experienced her first bonefish on a fly rod while her Dad also pursued tarpon and Permit with Capt. Alex. Father and son team Eric and Joey tore up the bonefish for a couple days, John and his sons Luke and Grady were pursuing bonefish, cudas and jack using light tackle gear with great success! Honeymoon couple Ashley and Joe got their first bonefish ever with Capt. Luis. Kasidy and Chip from Utah were also celebrating their honeymoon with a few bonefish to the boat their first day out. Mike and his son Wyatt finished up their trip with some great bonefish.
PERMIT (Palometta):
The permit hero of the week is long time guest Mark from Rockport Texas, his 2 new knees served him well on his last day when he and Capt. Emir got him into a bunch of permit, with a nice fish to the boat.
TARPON (Sabalo):
Our repeat guest Dave hooked up some tarpon with Capt. Luis. Josh on his first day out hooked 2, but went 0 for 2 as far as landing goes. Josh and his guide Cinoeh will be back at it most of next week as well. Dave came away with zero as well, even though his casting improved dramatically since last year. He deserved one to the boat but it will have to wait til his trip next year with his guide Capt. Tomas. Damian and Tony claim they saw 100 tarpon on their Friday outing with Capt. Junior none would bite despite their skills. Bob jumped 2 tarpon on his last day with Capt. Alex and his daughter Tori.
Grand Slam:
Mark was close when he got a tarpon to eat on his permit day alas it did not stick. My statistics are that roughly 1 out of 10 tarpon hooked are landed.
OTHER SPECIES:
Lots of nice jacks kept the rods bent for Joey, Eric, Damian, Anthon, Tori and Bob, and a few barracudas thrown in for good measure.
FLIES THAT WORKED
FOR BONEFISH -
Crazy Charlie, gotcha, Christmas Island specials, foxy gotcha, small clousers.
FOR PERMIT -
Avalon, Christmas Island Special
FOR TARPON -
Tan bunny, Black Death, Chartreuse toad
Guide of the week:
Capt. Emir for the permit with Senor Mark from Texas
This Week's Summary:
A light week here at the lodge with beautiful weather that was really a little too calm! Just a few boats went out each day, the tarpon bite was slow even though everything was perfect - the moon, tides, wind, but they were pretty tough to convince. Even the normally aggressive migratory fish were shy to eat on most days. Several honeymoon couples graced our presence and enjoyed the weather with some of our long time friends who have visited El Pescador many times before.
Cast to your dreams!
