WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONEFISH (Macabi):
Mike and Jane started off with bonefish and then got seduced by tarpon fishing later in the week, Larry, Brian, Fred and Judy, Craig and Spencer, Brandon and Robert, Brian, Eric, Trent, Kevin and Christine, James and Carol ~ all had some sweet success among the bonefish population here on Ambergris Caye. Returning friends Ted and Wing, Larry, Archie, Robert, Brain all knew about our cooperative bonefish at El Pescador and were not disappointed. A few nice fish were caught both in front of the lodge, and in the lagoon system behind the lodge this week, during some after hour fishing escapades.
PERMIT (Palometta):
James landed the biggest of the week, with a nice thick 15 pound beauty, Brandon says his was not as big but he was till extremely pleased with his first permit. Father and son team Craig and Spencer landed permit on the same day late in their trip and was followed up by John who landed the last permit of the week.
TARPON (Sabalo):
Fred was first on the list with his tarpon, James landed a baby tarpon as part of his slam day a nice 10 pounder. ( these smaller tarpon are the most fun as they jump like crazy and take just a few minutes to tire out) Jane hooked up big time a=on a nice tarpon and 2 other boats up to a mile a way heard her excitement as the fish bolted so fast she could not let go of the line fast enough, ending up with a slice in her stripping finger! Robert rounded out the week with his tarpon.
OTHER SPECIES:
Barracudas, Snappers, Snook
Grand Slam:
James is the big hero this week putting it together with a spectacular permit, a good tarpon and a solid bonefish all in a single day filled with multiple grins!
FLIES THAT WORKED
FOR BONEFISH -
CI-Special, Crazy Charlie, Gotcha
FOR PERMIT -
Mantis shrimp
FOR TARPON -
White deceiver, gummy minnow, black death
This Week's Summary:
While the weather was all over the place with winds sometimes challenging the anglers, the fish were there and showed. Bonefish in good numbers, some nice permit and even a duo for a father and son team, and some smaller tarpon that put on airial acrobatic shows and challenge you to do everything right. With a nice slam to top it off. What fun!
Fish On!
