WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONEFISH (Macabi):
The sun came out and anglers had numerous shots at bonefish both on fly and spin. Large schools were targeted along with some big boys tailing way up in the skinny water. Tony was here from New Jersey, and landed several bonefish on fly with Captain Vince. Bill went out with Capt. Jr., and caught his first bonefish on his first day trying a fly rod! He went out with his buddies earlier in the week with spin gear. They had a blast, but this was a special treat and reward for stepping out of his comfort zone. Bob and Paula ripped it up with Captain Erlindo - several bonefish on fly. Roslyn 12 sighted bonefish on fly with Captain Kechu. Dr. David, his son Greg and Amber had several days with Captain Tomas with bonefish as their "most action," fish.
PERMIT (Palometta):
Out of control good! Nick landed a permit on fly with Captain Kechu, Matt went out on day numero uno and landed a beauty with Captain Emir, Jason landed about a 16 pounder with Captain Emir and David landed a beauty on spin with Captain Kechu. Nice going!
TARPON (Sabalo):
The tarpon fishing this week is "like you read about!" Gorgeous. Steve and James had EPIC tarpon fishing with Captain Cesar. The jumped 12 and landed 5 - one 80, two 60, and 3 in the 30 plus range. Amazing Go Pro footage. Steve danced that fly in perfect pro form. They loved the tan bunny on 3/0. Then, Jason and Ann had a blast with Captain Emir. Jason landed a 50 lb tarpon and we have some great pictures of jumps! Rob was so happy to land his poon with Captain Emir. He also targeted smaller tarpon the day before with Captain Luis and put a few in the air. And Lea went out with her husband David and Captain Kechu and landed a 60 lb on spin. Wow! Poon fever!
SNOOK:
Everyone was too tarpon crazed to look for snook this week.
OTHER SPECIES:
Barracuda! We have had some outstanding barracuda fishing this week - both on fly and spin. These fish are totally underrated. They take like they mean it, they get big air, and they taste good. Congratulations to all anglers who put those cuda's in the air!
FLIES THAT WORKED
FOR BONEFISH -
Crazy Charlie, Gotcha, CI Special
FOR PERMIT -
Turneffe Crab, Avalon, Big Squimps!
FOR TARPON -
Black Death, Chartreuse toad, White toads and bait fish patterns.
Guide of the week:
Captain Cesar for taking two pros and giving them fantastic tarpon fishing on fly. They put 12 in the air and landed 5. Cesar is also getting pretty damn good with his camera! Thank you Cesar!
This Week's Summary:
We are just giddy around here. We had two months of rain and some pretty tough weather. This week we have our beautiful Belize weather back here on Ambergris Caye! Anglers and non anglers alike enjoyed the beautiful sunrises and days filled with sea breeze under sunny blue skies. Julie has been to EP the last three years celebrating her birthday! It's so much fun to see our repeat guests. David and Lea have returned to fish with Captain Kechu, and Rob, Kyra and Tegan are pretty much super stars around here. It was a week where hearts were captured by the special fish that make dreams come true. Through fishing, families spend time together and friends reunite for laughs and more stories to share down the road. Thank you for a beautiful week of fish and hearts.
Cast to your dreams!
