WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): "Bony fish" is the local slang with the older folks here on the island signifying how unpleasant they are to eat. Fortunately they are not so hard to catch (except for the one day for the one angler who needed it the most: our grand slam contender this week - Levi) Samuel and Richard's boat landed a huge bonefish that measured 30" and looked to be 7 pounds. Everyone else here at the lodge all landed bonefish. Michael and Mick got some big numbers on the board.

PERMIT (Palometta): Robert traveled a long way to El Pescador and was rewarded with a permit early on this week. Lucas was unaware that permit fishing was difficult and landed 4 on his first permit day. Mick and Michael's boat were pretty lucky (they claim it was all skill) as they landed a solid permit at the end of the last day of their vacation here at El Pescador. Levi got a permit as part 2 of his grand slam effort (the first was a tarpon) Lucas proved it was not a fluke and landed 4 more later in the week! Tucker got into his first permit midweek adding 3 more fish by the end of his stay for a total of 4 permit. Steve was thrilled with his first ever permit on a fly and was able to get 3 over his 5 days of fishing here at El Pescador.

TARPON (Sabalo): ):. Levi and Alina went fishing for tarpon one morning and after making short work of that by 8 am and then it was off to bone fish for a while, then permit fishing. Now landing 2 out of 3 is not bad but which 2?

OTHER SPECIES: Snapper, Jacks, Barracudas, Shad, ladyfish, snook (including a 15 pounder).

Grand Slam: The good news is that Levi landed a tarpon and a permit fairly easily to start the day, the bad news is that he hooked several bonefish but did not land one - I know it is hard to believe but true. Soooooo Close! How to you reconcile that the normally easy to catch bonefish was the hardest to catch on this particular day on this particular boat?

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Christmas Island Special, Gotcha

FOR PERMIT - Small Avalon, CI Special, Large Gotcha, various crabs.

FOR TARPON - White bunny, Black Death

This Week's Summary:

A nice quiet week at the lodge with some great guests, good weather and awesome fishing. Permit fishing was off the charts perfect this week far exceeding the normal rates. Perhaps this is the year of the permit in some obscure Mayan calendar?
