WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:
BONEFISH (Macabi):
Chris and Amali enjoyed their first saltwater experience and were able to celebrate their bonefishing success this week, despite Chris' rugby abused shoulder. Some new friends from Scotland arrived this week with Graeme (Dad), Kelly (Mom) and the girls - Julia, Hannah and Bethany. Bethany was the only one of the girls to pick up fly fishing this week and earned her bonefish pin early in the week. Graeme and Kelly did as well, but it was clear that Graeme enjoyed watching his family enjoy fishing more than fishing himself. Returning guests Bob and Jeanna with their adult kids Ryan and David had great fun during their stay. Bonefish is just a given for these guys. They came with Bruce and Tonya who are also on their 4th trip to El Pescador. They actually meet here at the lodge every year! Don got a bonefish on his first flats experience on his only day out, Tom and his wife Elizabeth got some great time n the water with their Captain (Junior) having their way with bonefish as well, they are returning next month to fish with Junior again.
PERMIT (Palometta):
There were a lot of shots at permit this week but only boat was successful in the quest - Captain Luis was the guide for Bob and his son David who teamed up with one doing the casting and the other doing the landing! Hackney and Jenn (their 11th visit here) tempted a few permit but just didn't come through in the end. They will be here through next week as they are warming up for the Tres Pescados tournament. Our old friend Frank (on his 3rd trip here) was permit humbled this year after a grand slam last year. Chris (rugby) was surrounded by permit on his last day and got a taste of the frustration and attraction of permit fishing with Capt. Hilberto
TARPON (Sabalo):
Bruce ended his week with a tarpon to the boat completing his grand slam week and gives lots of credit to his Captain, Kechu. Dean jumped a nice one on his first day out, Jay is clearly a tarpon addict now as he booked extra days onto the end of his trip just to get some more shots at these magnificent creatures. Hackney jumped a few, got one in, Bob is becoming obsessed after jumping his first tarpon with Capt. Luis.
Grand Slam:
None (Unless we count Bruce's permit, tarpon and bonefish caught over 2 days!)
OTHER SPECIES:
Jacks, Cudas, ladyfish, snappers, groupers, triggers, snook
FLIES THAT WORKED
FOR BONEFISH -
Gotcha, Borkski slider, Bitters, Crazy Charlies, Christmas Island specials
FOR PERMIT -
Avalon
FOR TARPON -
Black Death, tan toad, Chartreuse bunny, tan bunny.
Guide of the week:
Captain Luis for his permit savvy guiding Bob to his first permit and a great introduction to tarpon.
This Week's Summary:
Special congratulations to some new double haulers, Elizabeth is a rocket, Tom can throw, Tonya doubled the length of her cast this week, throwing 70 feet by the end of the week, Bethany picked up the double haul on her third casting lesson and it was fun to see the enthusiasm and improvement in all who took part in the daily classes.
Cast to your dreams!
