WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): Jack landed some beautiful big bonefish in the 4 and 5 lb range on fly this week with Captain Emir. His fabulous wife Ann landed her first bonefish on fly, and she was thrilled. I enjoyed listening to Ann describe what she witnessed watching Jack fish for the big bones. "Skinny water with their backs and tails out of the water!" That's right. That is what we call fun! Not easy and very rewarding. Jason and Jamie are here for their honeymoon. They had a great time with Captain Jr. and learned a ton. The next day he had his new bride paddle him around in a canoe in the back lagoon and he landed a bonefish unguided! Very satisfying. And way to go on picking a great gal! Joe and Renee have fished with fly several places in the salt. They were looking for tarpon and permit - had their shots, but the big fun for them ended up all about Mr. Bonefish. They landed over twenty respectable bones a day with Captain Luis. Our UK friend, Terry had great bonefishing with Captain Luis earlier in the week. Bob and Cheray landed their first bonefish on fly with Captain Gilberto. And our French angler, Patrick, landed several bonefish on fly with Captain Tomas. Tomas doesn't speak French, and Patrick doesn't speak English or Spanish, so it was pretty funny watching these two communicate. Bottom line - fishing knows no boundaries, it is its own language. They both repeated, "strip, strip, strip" and they would bust up laughing. Bill was spin fishing with his buddies and he was the only one that landed a bonefish. Everyone else landed several other species, but he was the one that got the bones! Way to go.

PERMIT (Palometta): Check out the beautiful permit Sidney landed on fly with Captain Cesar. Love it! And our dear friend Kevin was here with his wild brother Kelly, and his wonderful dad, Hal. They have been here to El Pescador several times, so it's special when they get what they want! Kevin landed a permit on fly with Captain Gilberto. Andy is also a return angler here with his wife Cindy. Andy landed a permit on fly one day with Captain Kechu, then went out the next day and landed four! We'll see what he does with his last day out there. Andy is really happy. And congratulations to Bill who landed his permit on spin with Captain Kechu. Permit fever! And remember the honeymooners? - Jamie rowing her husband around for Mr. Bonefishwell, she was rewarded with a permit on spin with Captain Jr. Way to go!

TARPON (Sabalo): When the wind moves to the south, Savannah can get off color. Which it did. But when it clears - and it usually clears in less than a few hours, and the bite is on! Brothers Mark and Kevin were fishing with Captain Cesar this week. They have had several shots and put a couple in the air! Kevin's tarpon jumped five times before the fish won. See Kevin's picture, "Two days before jumping a tarpon." Pretty funny. Yep, it isn't snowing here. And I'm thrilled to announce that Patrick did get his tarpon on fly with Captain Tomas. He fished Savannah and they fished the lagoons. Patrick loved the lagoon fishing for tarpon, and it was there he was successful! Their common language"strip, striiiiip, striiiiiiiiip!"

SNOOK: Captain Luis had Terry in snook, but they were not interested in the fly. Several shots and change ups, but they wanted nothing to do with it. Oh well. Let's keep figuring it out!

OTHER SPECIES: Barracuda! We have had some outstanding barracuda fishing this week - both on fly and spin. These fish are totally underrated. They take like they mean it, they get big air, and they taste good. Congratulations to all anglers who put those cuda's in the air! The most landed goes to Bill and Walter who landed over ten barracuda on spin with Captain Raton! But the biggest cuda landed this week goes out to Kelly. He landed a 25 pounder on spin with Captain Emir. Wow. Mr. Crunch provided big, big fun.

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - Crazy Charlie, Gotcha, CI Special

FOR PERMIT - Turneffe Crab, Avalon, Big Squimps!

FOR TARPON - Black Death, Chartreuse toad, White toads and bait fish patterns.

Guide of the week: Captain Kechu for getting Andy into 5, yes 5, permit on fly this week!

This Week's Summary:

It was really nice to see Jay and Debra enjoying their good friends Steve and Chris here at El Pescador. They fished and enjoyed a fabulous shore lunch with Captain Jr. It was also wonderful to see the Krause brothers here with their amazing dad, Hal. Thanks for visiting Hal! Patty and Jim were here for their annual visit. They don't fish, but they sure do love the wild life here! Steve started calling them, "the lagoon people!" They left with their annual deep dark tan to the snow of the north. There was a great feeling in the lodge this week. Beautiful weather, good friends and outstanding fishing. And once again we are reminded that fishing is a beautiful universal language. We are always grateful. Thank you!

Cast to your dreams!
