Weather Conditions: Partly cloudy most of the week with some morning showers on Friday and Saturday

Winds: More wind than we wanted. 12- 15 most of the week out of the NE-E. Calming dramatically by the end of the week.

Air Temperature: High 80's, for the High. Mid 70's, for the lows.

Water Temperature: 80 degrees

Moonphase: The new moon was on on April 29th.

WHAT GUESTS WERE CATCHING:

BONEFISH (Macabi): The Crested Butte Group dominated the lodge this week and it was the girls that led the way!: Jody, Michele, Ellen, Nicole, Janis, Rhonda, Macee, Suzanne, Alice all landed bonefish this week. For almost all of them it was their first bonefish ever. Their husbands did well too with Ken L., Ken F., Sam, Bill, Bone, Craig, Tommy and Steve all stepping up to the challenge. Other guests like Jonathan, Bruce, Linda, Alex, Bob, Garnet, Patrick added to the bonefish total. One boat had 44 in one day, not bad for less than ideal weather and anglers new to the salt!

PERMIT (Palometta): Jody and Michelle both hooked permit the first day but were not able to land them for Capt. Tomas. Ken L. came through for the Crested Butte group with a nice permit with Capt. Hilberto early in the week.

TARPON (Sabalo): Clearly Janis and Alice were the tarpon queens in the able hands of Capt. Vince with Janis landing 2 and jumping a few more Alice jumped a real big fish. Over the next few days, Alice was able to land her first tarpon and Janis landed 3 more. Mid week Will fished with Capt. Cesar and landed 2 poons on the fly as they found some in a dense mangrove area.

Grand Slam: None

OTHER SPECIES: Jacks, Cudas, ladyfish, snappers, cudas

FLIES THAT WORKED

FOR BONEFISH - It works ~ if it is a small bonefish pattern it will work sometimes lead eyes like the CI Special's, or a simple Gotcha, Cree Charlies in pink, Crazy Charlies, Rabbit Charlies etc.

FOR PERMIT - Christmas Island Special

FOR TARPON - Black Death, Deceivers in Green and white,

Guide of the week: Vince for his 6 tarpon week for Janis and Alice.

This Week's Summary:

It was great having Jason and Dane from the Crested Butte Fly Shop hosting a great group from Texas, 20 in all, and all had a blast! The wind was just relentless until very late in the week so it kept the permit and tarpon number in check.

Cast to your dreams!
